Mercury (Hermes in Greek Mythology) reflects our ability to process information and understand life. He rules all the bits and pieces of data that we receive throughout the day and processes this particular information through our brains in order for us to make decisions. Although many astrologers do not focus on the transits of Mercury, I feel that his movements through the zodiac (and through our charts) are very important because they reflect how our thoughts and ideas are influenced by and affect our immediate environments. After all, if your mind is cluttered or distracted, how is it possible to make sound decisions?
On September 16, 2012, Mercury will move out of the orderly world of Virgo and into the cerebral realm of Libra. While Mercury is in the sign of the scales (where he will be until October 5, 2012), we will notice that we need to weigh our options more than normal. Why? Our minds need to apply the mental skill of reflection and comparison in order to make balanced and fair decisions. In addition, since Libra rules open enemies and opponents we may find a need to debate issues and are inspired by intense discussions.
Take some time over the next month to explore where your mind may be unbalanced. Are you focused on one thing more than another? Are you weighing your choices and decisions? Are you allowing others to express their point of view? If we are unable to tap into our inner thinking function (Mercury), we may become indecisive, over compromising, and may lean towards superficial judgments that limit us to one side of a story rather than examining the whole picture.
