Earlier this month, I wrote about Venus’ unhappy positioning in Capricorn. Although Venus would prefer not to be confined to the realm of social responsibilities, duties, and allegiance to what she loves, these are her basic modes of operation as she travels through the earthy and practical terrain of this sign. In essence, this can lead Venus to feel insecure and unsure. This is the way we all tend to feel (not just Venus) when we are out of our comfort zone!
Feelings of insecurity can work in two ways. First off, it can bring out the best. Venus at her best in Capricorn is practical, responsible, successful, and recognized. Her life tends to be very structured and she seems to have a bit of authority. She can be the wise woman that everyone goes to for relationship advice. On the other hand, insecure planetary placements can also bring out the worst in the planet. An unskillful application of Venus in Capricorn would tend to be controlling, guarded, distrustful, self-doubting, and manipulative.
The reason I went into Venusian aspects in Capricorn is her conjunction with Pluto is on the January 16, 2013. Of these two planets, Pluto is the stronger and when he lays his will down on Venus difficulties can tend to rise to the surface – after all he is the planet of death, rebirth, and regeneration.
Any relationship that is toxic will tend to come under the gun during this transit. Why? At some time in some magical kingdom known as relationship insanity, some individual came up with the bright idea that love manipulation was the easiest way to get what you want out of a relationship. It spread like a plague out of that magical kingdom and eventually landed here in the real world and since then many (often normally sound minded individuals) have allowed games and power plays to rule the day in relationships. We are told to do many things – if a guy is not communicating, pull back; if a man is not calling you or texting you non-stop, he really is not into you; if you do not have sex with a man, he will find it elsewhere. All of these pop culture formulas do more to infuse toxins or disease into a relationship that ultimately may cause serious problems. Pluto does not like these types of games, and if they are being played he will do something about it – and his transits tend to be painful.
While Venus is conjoined with Pluto, we have an opportunity to really look at what we would like in our relationships. Rather than resorting to manipulation and games, we can focus on what gives us real meaning in our relationships. In addition, we may discover difficult traits within ourselves that are limiting our relationship experience. For example, we may find that our relationship boundaries are not strong enough or that our limits have not been set. We may realize that we have accepted unacceptable behavior and sacrificed ourselves in the process. We may come to the conclusion that our relationship is based on compulsions and obsessions, rather than on love. These lessons come to the surface for us to work on ourselves and ultimately make our relationships stronger, more durable, and able to withstand even the most difficult of situations.
Although this aspect is rough, Venus and Pluto give us something that bride magazine has failed to deliver with their monthly subscription – a real relationship that can stand the test of time!
